Izmir Bus Station is one of the busiest terminals in the Aegean region and the main interchange for services to and from Didim. If you are arriving in the city by coach for the first time, the half hour after you arrive can be the most confusing part of the whole journey. This guide is here to make that half hour easier.

First Steps on Arrival

When the coach pulls in at the platform, it helps to get off without rushing, check your luggage and remember the platform number. Luggage is handed out from the hold under the coach; if you have a luggage tag, the attendant may ask to see it. Inside the terminal, signs point the way to the exits, the shuttles and the public transport connections.

There are several ways to get from Izmir Bus Station to the city centre: coach company shuttles, municipal buses and taxis. Didim Seyahat's shuttle routes from Izmir Bus Station cover Narlidere–Balcova–F. Altay–Ucyol, Gaziemir–Buca–Sirinyer and Cigli–Bostanli–Karsiyaka–Bornova. Shuttle times are planned around departure times, so confirm them when you buy your ticket or before you travel; the full list of routes is on our shuttle services page. For services to Didim, see the Izmir – Didim page.

Metro, IZBAN and City Connections

The backbone of public transport in Izmir is the metro, the IZBAN suburban railway, the tram and the ferry. You usually reach these lines from the bus station by municipal bus or shuttle. Choosing the right connection for the district you are going to makes a big difference to the total time: the metro and tram are commonly used for Konak and Alsancak, and a combination of IZBAN and the ferry for Karsiyaka and the north.

Fares on public transport are paid with the city travel card, which you can buy at kiosks around the terminal. Lines and timetables can change, so it is best to check the municipality's official transport channels on the day you travel.

If you are connectingIf you are catching the Didim coach from Izmir, allow at least an hour for getting across the city. Traffic and waiting times for connections can grow, especially in the evening.

Notes to Make Things Easier at Izmir Bus Station

  • Confirm your platform number on your ticket and on the terminal screens.
  • If you are arriving by shuttle, ask the staff at the terminal entrance where the shuttle leaves from.
  • Check the tag when you hand over your luggage; you will collect it with the same tag on arrival.
  • Public transport runs less often at night; plan alternative transport in advance for a night arrival.
  • Charge your phone fully before the journey ends; maps and ticket apps will come in handy on arrival.
