When travelling to Istanbul by coach, it matters to choose not only the right departure time but also the right arrival terminal. Depending on the service, Didim Seyahat's Istanbul connections may run via Esenler, Alibeykoy or Dudullu. The best terminal for you depends on which side of the city, and which district, you want to reach.
How Esenler, Alibeykoy and Dudullu Differ
Esenler Bus Terminal is on the European side and is a common arrival point for passengers who want easy access to the central public transport network. Alibeykoy is also on the European side and is worth considering especially for connections towards the north and the centre. Dudullu, on the other hand, may suit passengers planning to continue their journey on the Asian side.
When choosing a terminal, do not look only at the straight-line distance. Traffic, the number of changes, your arrival time and night-time public transport options can all change your total journey time.
How to Choose a Terminal When You Buy Your Ticket
- Decide on your final destination district in Istanbul.
- Check the Esenler, Alibeykoy and Dudullu options separately on the route page.
- Look at the actual stop order and the estimated arrival time in the journey details.
- Plan your onward metro, bus, shuttle or taxi connection after arrival.
From the Terminal to City Transport
All three terminals have metro and bus connections. Esenler Bus Terminal is directly connected to the metro and gives you a change-free ride into the city centre. On the Alibeykoy side, metro and tram lines make onward travel easier, and at Dudullu the Asian-side metro line does the same.
Public transport runs less often at night. If you arrive after midnight, plan the transport you will take from the terminal in advance and, if necessary, find out the time of the first service in the morning.
Luggage and After Arrival
Istanbul's terminals are very busy with arrivals. When the coach pulls in at the platform, check your tag as you collect your luggage from the attendant; suitcases of the same make and colour are easily mixed up. Checking your phone battery and your travel card before leaving the terminal will speed up your next step.
If you still have a long way to go across the city, it is more comfortable to take a short break at the terminal to eat and use the toilets. If you are taking a taxi at night, check the route on a map before you set off.
Practical Tips for Arriving in Istanbul
- For night arrivals, check the operating hours of your onward transport in advance.
- Keep your ticket and luggage tag ready when you hand over your luggage.
- Do not plan a tight connection around the estimated arrival time; allow for traffic.
- Share the terminal name and your estimated arrival time with family or friends.
