Discover Didim

Didim is a seaside district of Aydin province on Turkey's Aegean coast, with two great draws: the Temple of Apollo at ancient Didyma and the soft, golden sand of Altinkum beach. The town centre, once known as Yenihisar, is lively in summer, when the population grows many times over, and calm in winter, and it has long been popular with British holidaymakers and residents. Didim Seyahat takes its name from the town, and we run regular buses from Didim to Izmir, Istanbul, Ankara and many other cities.

Things to see in Didim

  • Temple of Apollo (Didyma): One of the largest temples of the ancient world and a famous oracle, once linked to Miletus by a Sacred Way. It is known for its giant columns and its Medusa head relief. The temple is in the town centre; visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the midday heat.
  • Altinkum: Didim's best-known beach, with shallow water and a sandy seabed that make it a favourite with families. Cafes and restaurants line the seafront.
  • Akbuk: A quiet bay east of the town centre, where pine forests run down to the sea. It suits anyone looking for a calmer stay away from the crowds.
  • Didim Marina: One of the largest yacht marinas in Turkey and a pleasant spot for an evening walk and a meal by the water.
  • Miletus (Balat): An ancient city within the district, known for its huge theatre, the Baths of Faustina and the nearby Ilyas Bey Mosque. It was the home town of the philosopher Thales.
  • Priene and Lake Bafa: Priene, at Gullubahce near Soke, and Lake Bafa, on the road between Soke and Milas, are both easy day trips from Didim.

Getting to Didim

We run direct buses to Didim from Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Denizli, Gebze, Bodrum and Milas, so there is no need to change. The road from Izmir comes through Soke, while the road from Bodrum and Milas runs along the shore of Lake Bafa.

Bus station and getting around

Our office is at Didim bus station in the town centre, where you can buy tickets and ask about departures and luggage. Local minibuses (dolmus) connect the town with Altinkum, Akbuk and the surrounding neighbourhoods. The nearest airport is Milas-Bodrum; if you fly into Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, you can take one of our buses to Didim from Izmir bus station.

Travel tips

Seats sell quickly in summer and during public holidays, so booking a few days ahead secures your preferred time and seat. Some of our long-distance routes do not run every day; the “Next” date in the timetable shows the next day the bus runs. Please be at the bus station at least 15 minutes before departure. The sea is warm enough for swimming from late May to mid-October, while spring and autumn are cooler for exploring the ancient sites.
