Discover Soke
Soke is one of the largest districts of Aydin province, set at the northern edge of the fertile Buyuk Menderes (Great Maeander) plain, where cotton has long been the main crop. The roads to Didim, Kusadasi, Aydin and Izmir meet here, which makes Soke one of the key transfer points in the region; the main road from Didim to Izmir also runs through the town.
Things to see around Soke
- Priene: This ancient city at Gullubahce was built on the slopes of Mount Mycale. Its grid-plan streets, its theatre and the standing columns of the Temple of Athena make it one of the most striking sites on the Aegean coast.
- Dilek Peninsula and Buyuk Menderes Delta National Park: Stretching between Soke and Kusadasi, the park has clear coves and walking trails, while the delta side has wetlands where you can spot water birds such as Dalmatian pelicans and flamingos.
- Lake Bafa: On the road from Soke to Milas, the lake is known for the lakeside village of Kapikiri, the ruins of ancient Heraclea and views of the Besparmak Mountains, the ancient Latmos.
- Miletus and Didyma: These two ancient sites lie to the south in the Didim district and are easy to visit from Soke.
- Davutlar and Guzelcamli: The beaches closest to Soke are at these two seaside villages on the road to Kusadasi, and the national park entrance is at Guzelcamli.

Travel tips
For long-distance journeys, be at the bus station at least 15 minutes before departure. In summer and during public holidays, booking early makes it easier to get the seat you want. Some of our routes do not run every day; the “Next” date in the timetable shows the next day the bus runs. Visit Priene in the morning; the site is on a hillside, so comfortable shoes help. The best seasons for birdwatching in the delta are the spring and autumn migrations.
