When Didim Seyahat was founded in 1964, it first operated between Didim and Söke. At the outset it was organised as a Birlik (union). Its founders were Mehmet Çiler, Osman Çağlar, Refik Karataş, İsmail Ergeldi, Baki Demir, Bilal Kafadar, Faruk Özden, Hasan Cengiz and Vecdi Şencan.
The union began with 35 members. Didim Seyahat, whose core policy has always been planned and steady growth, now has 39 members. Membership is deliberately kept limited because this number is sufficient to meet Didim's transport needs.
A cooperative that grew with its region
From its founding in 1964, Didim Birlik used vehicles suited to the economic, social and geographical character of the region. Being a cooperative with many partners allowed it to operate more efficiently under competitive conditions and demonstrated the necessity and the benefits of solidarity in overcoming difficulties. That multi-partner structure brought the union to a more active, distinguished and respected position in the regional transport sector.
Between 1960 and 1980 Didim had a small resident population and modest tourist numbers, which left the union's structure and activity largely static in those years. In 1981 the union was reorganised under new legislation and took the name S.S. 18 No'lu Didim Birlik Motorlu Taşıt Kooperatifi.
The busy years began once Didim became a district and tourism investment grew alongside rising visitor numbers. Having become a centre of attraction and business, Didim received internal migration from other parts of the country between 1990 and 2006 and its population grew. As seasonal visitor numbers began to be counted in the hundreds of thousands, it became unavoidable to review the quality and scale of transport services and bring them up to date.
A new era under the name Didim Seyahat
To that end, by decision of the cooperative's management the name was changed to Didim Seyahat in 2004 and investment accelerated. In the first stage, 5 coaches were purchased in addition to the existing 39 minibuses. The minibuses are owned individually by each member, while the coaches are jointly owned by Didim Seyahat members. After obtaining the necessary permits from the Ministry of Transport and a quality certificate from TSE, coach services began between İzmir and Didim.
The regional effects of a changing world order, together with shifts in expectations of service and quality, encouraged the company to present itself with a more corporate identity. As a cooperative moving towards a corporate structure, Didim Seyahat was also notable as a regional first.
Our cooperative operates today under the legal name Sınırlı Sorumlu 18 Nolu Didim Seyahat Karayolu Yolcu Taşıma Kooperatifi.
